Dashboard Light Guides
Ocala, Gainesville, and Starke drivers know just how important routine maintenance is. As important as following your service schedule is, there are other service warning signs you’ll want to watch for. Some of them are dashboard lights.
In the dashboard light guides on this page, you can study up on the dashboard symbols you’ll find in Ford cars, trucks, and SUVs. Discover what each symbol means and contact us at Ford of Ocala to learn more!
Warning Lights vs Indicator Lights
There are two types of dashboard lights you’ll find in your vehicle. It’s important to know the difference between them, so you can respond (if needed) appropriately.
When it comes to service, warning lights are the ones to watch for. In most cars, these illuminate in warm colors, like red, orange, and yellow. From the Engine Oil light to the Battery light, these lamps alert you to possible malfunctions in the corresponding systems.
Indicator lights, meanwhile, tend to illuminate in cool colors, like green or blue. These lights don’t require service—they just let you know that you have certain systems engaged or unengaged. The Adaptive Cruise Control and Blind Spot Monitor lights are two examples of these.
What to Do about Warning Lights
When your warning lights illuminate, it’s time to schedule service and have your car checked out. The light itself won’t always pinpoint the nature of the problem you’re dealing with. For example, a check engine light could signal a wide range of issues.
It’s also possible that your warning light went on in error, and your car’s systems are running smoothly. To know for sure, you’ll want to have a certified technician take a closer look. Here at our service center, we have the diagnostic tools required to get at the root of every problem.
