F-150 XL vs XLT: The Similarities

2019 Ford F-150 XL Engine Options The F-150 XL and XLT are the base trim and the second-level trim, respectively. They offer advantages to shoppers, including flexible configuration: They’re the only F-150 trim levels available with all three cabs and all three bed lengths.

The XL and XLT also both come equipped with the base 3.3L V6 engine, mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. You’ll see up to 290 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque with this combination, providing all the get-up-and-go you need.

In either trim, you can tow up to 7,700 pounds when properly equipped. That’s enough to move a water ski boat or even a lightweight trailer!

Advanced Technology Features

As the base trim, the F-150 XL goes the lightest on technology. Its claim to fame is a rearview camera with dynamic hitch assist, so you can direct your hitch ball to the trailer receiver when preparing to tow. For a work truck, the XL will get the job done reliably.

If you want more creature comforts, step up to the XLT. It adds a range of more advanced tech features, like:

  • MyKey®, so you can set limits on speed and audio volume for teenage drivers.
  • SYNC®, the Ford infotainment system with voice recognition.
  • Power locks and windows

In terms of safety, the F-150 XLT offers available Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear-Traffic Alert. You’ll get a good look at what’s happening in your blind spots, whether you’re changing lanes or backing out of your driveway.

Design & Comfort

2019 Ford F-150 XL Red Technology isn’t the only where the F-150 XL and XLT diverge: They feature different design schemes, too. It really pops and lends the truck an attractive sheen.

The XLT can also be had with an available sunroof. Let some fresh air and sunlight into your ride, and you can arrive at your destination feeling more rejuvenated!
