READ BEFORE WATCHING THE 2 MINUTE VIDEO! This incredible machine was built as a collaborative effort between the Robert M. Trammell Music Conservatory and the Sharon Wick School of Engineering at the University of Iowa . Amazingly, 97% of the machines components came from John Deere Industries and Irrigation Equipment of Bancroft , Iowa... yes farm equipment! It took the team a combined 13,029 hours of set-up, alignment, calibration, and tuning before filming this video but as you can see it was WELL worth the effort. It is now on display in the Matthew Gerhard Alumni Hall at the University and is already slated to be donated to the Smithsonian P.S. Notice that at no time does a ball fall on the floor!

Ford of Ocala Is Nothing to Sneeze At!

For the millions of people who suffer from airborne allergies, Ford is making a small change that could produce huge benefits. Beginning with the 2010 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and Lincoln MKZ, more efficient, upgraded allergen filters have been installed in the vehicles' climate control systems. The particulate filters remove pollen, mold spores and road dust from outside air. The result is a cleaner, fresher cabin for occupants.

You'll breathe easier knowing that Ford is planning to use the high-quality cabin filters in a host of new vehicles, including the Ford Fiesta, which goes on sale in North America this year.

According to the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, the costs of treating hay fever and similar nasal allergies have skyrocketed, reaching more than $11 billion annually - mostly for prescription medications.

For the 30 to 40 percent of people estimated to suffer from allergies, improvements in air quality can make a big difference in their symptoms, and consequently their health care expenses.

Ford's new cabin air filter removes the most troublesome airborne allergens, such as pollen and mold spores.

The cabin filter used in North America is similar to the one that has helped certify Ford vehicles in Europe as being allergy-friendly by the independent testing organization TUV Rhineland. Ford is the only automaker in Europe with the official TUV allergy-friendly certification.

Quote

"Upgrading the cabin air filter to remove allergens and airborne pollutants will help our millions of allergy-suffering customers find relief while driving their Ford cars, trucks and SUVs. This is a great example of how Ford is examining every aspect of vehicle engineering to maximize consumer benefits."

Ford of Ocala Has The North American Truck of the Year In Stock!

Wednesday, February 17, 2010

The 2010 Ford Transit Connect handily hauled home the 2010 North American Truck of the Year. The award was announced January 11, 2010, at a news conference at the North American International Auto Show.
The Transit Connect is part of the Ford global portfolio of products, and was introduced to North America in 2009 to meet the unique needs of small business owners. The Transit Connect is a spacious, fuel-efficient alternative to larger commercial vehicles, and it's ideal for navigating U.S. cities.
The North American Truck of the Year recognizes the most outstanding vehicle of the year based on many factors, including innovation, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction and value. To be eligible, vehicles must be all-new or substantially changed from the previous model. The jury is comprised of 49 automotive journalists in Canada and the United States, representing newspapers, magazines, web sites, television and radio shows.
This is the 17th year of the award, and the 2010 Ford Transit Connect was selected above nine other competitors. Ford has a bit of experience winning this award. Most recently, the F-150 was the 2009 North American Truck of the Year. A Ford vehicle has taken home the honors five times; more than any other brand.

Safety Advisory For Recalled Toyota Drivers!

Thursday, February 11, 2010

From the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles~ http://www.flhsmv.gov/ToyRecall.pdf
Actions Consumers Can Take If They Cannot Stop Their Vehicle. Regardless of the cause, if a consumer is experiencing unintended acceleration in their vehicle, they should take the following steps:

  • Brake firmly and steadily - do not pump the brake pedal
  • Shift the transmission into Neutral (for vehicles with automatic transmissions and the sport option, familiarize yourself with where Neutral is - the diagram may be misleading)
  • Steer to a safe location
  • Shut the engine off (for vehicles with keyless ignition, familiarize yourself with how to turn the vehicle off when it is moving - this may be a different action than turning the vehicle off when it is stationary).
  • Call your dealer or repair shop to pick up the vehicle. Do not drive it.

For more information, consumers can contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Hotline at 888-327-4236 or the Toyota Experience Center at 1-800-331-4331 or the Lexus Customer Assistance Center at 1-800-255-3987. Toyota Spins As Recalls Mount...

Tuesday, February 9, 2010

Up Front, Toyota is running TV ads vowing to win back customers' trust. But behind the scenes, the besieged carmaker is trying to influence the congressional investigations, and maybe even control them if they can.

It's part of an ploy by the world's biggest auto manufacturer to redeem its reputation~ hit anew on Tuesday as Toyota's global recall surpassed 8.5 million cars and trucks. The day's safety recall of 440,000 of the Prius and other hybrids, plus a Tokyo news conference where the company's president read a statement in English hoping to "regain the confidence of our customers," underscoring his determination to keep buyers' faith from sinking to unrecoverable depths.

Facing congressional inquiries & government safety investigations, Toyota through its lawyers and lobbyists is working to salvage its reputation. The confidential strategy includes efforts to sway upcoming hearings on Capitol Hill. Lobbyists have helped by companies that have survived similar consumer and political crises ~ and those that haven't. Toyota will say little publicly about its efforts to stop the bleeding.

Rep. Bart Stupak, D-Mich, said Toyota representatives visited his offices seeking to learn all they could.

"They're probing us. 'What are you going to ask us, where are you going with this whole thing?'" said Stupak, who is chairman of a House subcommittee looking into Toyota's problems.

Toyota spending more than $4 million on lobbying last year, declined to discuss details. The company has hired additional lobbyists, lawyers and public relations experts to influence regulators and lawmakers collaboratively towards a successful recall effort, ensuring proper, diligent compliance according to their press release.

Ford of Ocala gains, Toyota stumbles...

As carmakers crunch their January sales & release the figures this week, Wall Street analysts will be anaylzing them to see how badly Toyota has been hurt by its massive accelerator recall & identifying exactly who will benefit most. It is not an easy call. Wall Street feels that Ford could pick up a lot of customers because of Toyota's problems. While Ford has been the subject of enormously favorable news stories, ranging from vehicle awards to headlines for not taking a bailout — we are the only U.S. automaker to report a profit in the past several years.

But people at Goldman Sachs suggests that while Ford will continue to gain market share this year, Toyota won't affect us much. They see Chrysler and GM as being the largest source of share gains while expecting modest gains against foreign brands.

Safety Recalls Continue to Plague Toyota

Wednesday, February 3, 2010

"What comes around goes around" as my old fishin' buddies used to say. When we had a recall involving tires on our Explorers, Toyota was the loudest in exploiting it to make sales. Now it's happened to Toyota in a much more serious manner and to be honest both Ford an GM have been fairly sympathetic to their plight. After all, the people endangered by Toyota's action or lack of it are all future potential customers of ours.
My friends and customers have been discussing it openly and though I am biased there are some valid points. First Toyota blamed it on the floor mats~ then they found cars that had the floormats in the trunk. Now they are blaming the gas pedal and hope to fix it with a chunk of metal bolted to the inside of the firewall. CTS has emphatically stated that their product did not cause the runaway acceleration experienced by about 2000 drivers. I was giving Toyota the benefit of the doubt until they started recalling cars in Europe & Asia that don't have CTS parts installed. I sincerely hope this shim solves the problem. But I have my doubts as even if the accelerator were slammed against the floor and stuck someone like the California Highway Patrolman should have enough strength to get his shoe under it and free it. Or put both feet on the brakes and slow it down. Not die with 3 family members in a Lexus 350 while talking to 911.
I stated when I first heard about it that I suspected the PCM computer. My reasoning is that American emissions and safety standards are much stricter so the tolerances of the computer programs are much closer. A computer program also runs your cruise control. A car is basically a hostile environment for a computer. Americans have always been way ahead of the curve in inventions and technology while others exploit our knowledge for their own agenda. Computers crash all the time at home & work and it's hard to duplicate why sometimes. If the brakes and gas pedal mechanism all froze the computer could still cause the engine to run at top speed. Similar to the dieseling my VW Rabbit did. Every once in a while it would just run away from me in a cloud of black smoke and I would have to kill the engine and coast to the side of the road. Naturally I freaked the first time. But after that I always mapped escape routes as I drove. I was fortunate that it never happened in traffic but only when I was cruising in the country. Not having a VW dealer close by, I asked many garages if they had heard about it and could they fix it. They were all willing to work on it for big bucks but I parked it instead.
Talk around the customer service lounge is that it's related to the cruise control in some way. Steve Woz @ Apple is experiencing major problems with his Prius and blogging about it. Congress is investigating and Toyota is trying to stop the bleeding. Meanwhile Ford is staying the course to produce safer and more fuel efficient vehicles without aid from the Government. I'll continue to blog about this as it unfolds and add links and videos so that you know it isn't just my opinion driving this blog.

Holy Batman! Ford of Ocala supports CFCC Foundation

This event is in conjunction with the CFCC Foundation’s Annual Fund Drive. The Annual Fund is an internal campaign for employees of the college to support the college monetarily in a variety of ways including scholarships, endowments, The Promise for the Future fund and much more. This years theme is the Patriot 400 and from the beginning of Jan. until Feb 5, the goal is to raise at least 400 pit crew drivers fro the 6 teams. While the monetary amount is valuable, the goal of this drive is to raise awareness and support for the Foundation’s efforts amongst employees; so the team that wins will have the most crew members, not money. Each member of the Presidents staff and Dr. Dassance have made a significant contribution of their own and that entitled them to chose their car. The committee members for the drive have chosen a car to support and serve as the crew chiefs. Ford of Ocala is representing the Bat Mobile and Dr. Tim Wise, VP of Student Affairs. The event is being held during lunch hours today at the Student Union and all faculty and staff are encourage to come and meet the drivers and their crews, and in the end, sign up to support one of the teams.

DETROIT -- The AutoWeek editorial staff has named Ford’s next-generation Focus the “Most Significant” vehicle of the 2010 North American International Auto Show. By that we mean enthusiasts have been crying for the European Focus for years and we’re finally getting our wish. We also think it’s a perfect platform for an SVT version. Ford of Ocala is Selling Fusions at a Record Pace!

Tuesday, November 17, 2009

Ford Motor Co. said Thursday that its Fusion midsize sedan has already broken the model's annual sales record even though U.S. auto sales have dropped 25 percent.

Ford sold 151,137 Fusions through November 11th, beating the full-year sales record of 149,552 set in 2007, the company said in a statement.

Fusion sales through the first 10 months of the year were up 15 percent from the same period in 2008, according to Autodata Corp.

The Fusion was the top-selling car made by a Detroit automaker through October.

It gets up to 34 miles per gallon (14.5 kilometers per liter) on the highway when equipped with a four-cylinder engine and six-speed automatic transmission.

A gas-electric hybrid version gets up to 41 miles per gallon (17.5 kilometers per liter) in the city.

The car's base price is just under $20,000 including shipping.

The Fusion and its Mercury twin, the Milan, have received good quality rankings from outside ratings groups. Four-cylinder versions of the cars finished second in the family car category, beaten only by Toyota's Prius gas-electric hybrid, in Consumer Reports magazine's auto rankings.

Ford of Ocala Donates $6000 to Marion Technical Institute!

How does one define success? Is it the absence of failure? Is it the presence of greatness? Or, rather, can you simply define it by reaching, and hopefully exceeding a goal? This past weekend, on Saturday, November 7th, 2009, Ford of Ocala participated in a local event at the Marion Technical Institute labeled “Drive One 4UR School” that enabled members of local community to view and test drive a large assortment of Ford vehicles.

Hosted by Marion Technical Institute, the “Drive One 4UR School” event saw nearly 1,000 attendees, and 348 people test drove a Ford vehicle! As exciting as that is for Ford of Ocala, we are even more thrilled about what that means for MTI. In case you were not aware, for each person who test drove a Ford product (18 years of age and older, one driver per household) Ford donated $20 to MTI! We are proud to say that we reached our goal of at least 300 test drives, and it was all because of the hard work and dedication of the faculty, staff and students of MTI, and the staff of Ford of Ocala.

People from all walks of life came out to participate in the event, and we heard more positive feedback and comments than we had imagined. Some of which includes “Wow! This Fusion has a lot of room!” or “The acceleration in this vehicle is far more powerful than I anticipated.” and at times “I have got to get me one of these, may I have a business card, please?” Within our community of Marion County, and surrounding counties, Ford of Ocala is committed to provide the finest Ford products and services. We cannot express enough appreciation to the community for making this event, or each day we are in business a satisfying and enjoyable experience.

We hope that as more events transpire, you continue to come to them, and we continue to provide a safe, pleasant atmosphere for you to come to.

Ford looking for a few good 2010 Fusion owners

Ford Motor Company said this morning that it is conducting a nationwide search for passionate 2010 Fusion and Fusion Hybrid owners to participate in Fusion 41, a consumer program designed to build awareness and excitement around the all-new 2010 Ford Fusion.

The Fusion 41 program - named for the vehicle's 41 mpg fuel economy rating - is intended to build on the Ford Drive One advertising campaign, which focuses on actual customers experiencing new Ford vehicles and sharing their stories with others. The Fusion 41 consumer story will come to life on the Internet, through social networking sites like Facebook, YouTube and Twitter, the automaker said.

Eight 2010 Fusion owners from throughout the country will be selected to participate in the Fusion 41 program. "They will be chosen based on their passion for Fusion and their ability to share compelling information about the vehicle on the Internet. Applicants must have a current Facebook profile with a minimum of 100 friends and an active photo collection.," Ford said.

Ford of Ocala presents And He Lived to Tell About It!

I recently purchased a 2009 For F-150 and I am writing you this email to praise the safety features of that vehicle that saved my life. I was recently at the Texas State Fair and was looking at the new Ford vehicles because we will soon be in the market for my wife a new SUV, and I told one of the representatives my story. They told me that I should send the pictures in to someone at Ford. I did a google search for contact info at Ford, and I am taking a guess at your email address from your name.

On May 9th, I was driving on south Interstate 45 from Dallas to Houston at 5 in the morning. It was pitch black outside and as I came over a small hill in the road, there were 6 cattle standing across the freeway. I was traveling 65-70 miles an hour and I did not have time to react and swerve away from the cows. I hit and killed 3 of the cows. I don't remember much of the wreck, but I do remember that I walked away from it. Once the police arrived on the scene, the were sure that anyone in the vehicle was surely dead. As every new officer and helping passer by came upon us, I was asked if I had checked on the people in the vehicle. They were surprised every time that I told them that I was the only one in the vehicle. They would ask how I was even standing after the wreck. I firmly believe that God put me in an F-150 exactly one week before the accident for a reason. The truck was totaled, and looking at the damage, I can see how anyone would not believe that I walked away from the accident. I had a twisted vertebrae, dislocated ribs, a concussion, and some burns from the airbag. All of that is fixable, and the one thing that I also have is my life. If I would have been in my previous vehicle, they said I would have been decapitated. On my F-150, the hood rolled back over the windshield and shielded anything from coming through it. The frame kept the cockpit in tact and overall, this truck truly performed the safety features to the max. No-one ever thinks of hitting 3 900 lb cows when they think of auto accidents, but your engineers and designers have put features into this truck that will save hundreds of lives, and I am sure glad they saved mine. My wife were married in March and this accident happened only 2 months after our wedding. Now we are expecting our first child, and I will only trust Ford vehicles with my wife and family in the future. I have attached a picture of the truck and I will say, the sales staff was fantastic in assisting me with getting a new 2009 F-150.

Thank You So Much,
Joe Cross
