Ford's 'Focus' on material recycling

Monday, February 15, 2010

Ford of Ocala, the leading car dealer in Ocala, asks the question... Have you ever wondered what happens to household carpets, old jeans and empty bottles that you discard? Would you believe Ford has found a way to recycle these items by using them to make car parts?

Ford collects discarded items everyday items like plastic bottles, bottle tops, carpets, computer and TV housings, compact discs, and even denim jeans and uses them to make vehicle components from recycled content thereby saving around 20,000 tons of landfill every year. In fact, the Focus, Ford's innovative hatchback, is in the forefront of this comprehensive European recycling campaign, which has created over 300 separate parts made out of the recycled material. Ford's material researchers have developed various vehicle components from recycled materials ensuring quality, durability or performance. The recycled materials have been used to make heater, air conditioners, bumpers, interior carpets, battery tray, wheel arch liners, air cleans, fabric seats, roof lining and instrument panel parts. It is very interesting to note here that noise insulation in all Ford vehicles is made from jeans and reclaimed car seat upholstery.

Ford of Ocala, the leading car dealer in Ocala for new Ford vehicles and used cars, believes this unique initiative demonstrates the Ford's commitment in taking a leading role to addressing environmental, economic and social impact of its cars. Ford is also testing Innovative new compounds for future use. Visit Ford of Ocala to learn more on Ford's innovative focus on material recycling. The 2008 Ford Focus brings a bold new look, a refined and flexible interior and a higher level of driving enjoyment to an evolving small car market.

The new Focus comes with a choice of two engines. The standard engine is a 140-horsepower 2.0-liter, Duratec 20 dual-overhead-cam (DOHC), inline 4-cylinder. There`s also a super-clean, 130-horsepower Duratec 20E engine that qualifies Focus as a Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (PZEV).

For the new 2008 Ford Focus, Ford`s design team drew inspiration from the highly successful Fusion, borrowing that car`s prominent chrome-bar grille design, flared wheel arches and sweeping, crisp lines to create a small car that stands out with a sporty stance.

The all-new interior design, with unique materials and new levels of craftsmanship, delivers a sense of modern, contemporary openness and provides even more flexible storage space.

The 2008 Ford Focus is one of the first Ford Motor Company vehicles to feature Sync, a cutting-edge way to use cell phones and media players inside a vehicle. This industry-first technology offers unprecedented levels of connection, control, simplicity and personalization for electronic devices inside a car.
