Focus On Child Passenger Safety
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)-sponsored National Child Passenger Safety Week (September 12-18, 2009) was a huge success.
Ford of Ocala, a leading dealership for new and used Ford cars in Ocala, Florida, is pleased to inform that a number of parents and caretakers got their safety seats checked at thousands of free safety seat inspection stations during the week. Trained child seat inspectors verified the seats and helped in the installation of the child seat free of charge. Also, English- and Spanish-speaking child passenger safety technicians answered the queries on children’s safety.
Research shows that though there is a high use of child safety seats nationwide, a majority of children are not properly secured. Children aged 2-14 die in automobile crashes due to nonuse or improper use of child seats and seat belts. The research also indicates that three out of every four seats are used incorrectly. Therefore the National Child Passenger Safety Week was organized to help promote, enhance, and enforce child passenger safety. In every car, the LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) consists of lower attachments on child seats and a set of tether anchors in the vehicle to hold the child seat in place without the use of the vehicle's seat belts.

When we were approached by the Adult Education & Technical Training Center about a new automotive program we rolled up our sleeves and joined in. It was a win-win situation for us. It was an outstanding opportunity to show our community support, advertise our products and get trained technicians in return. Besides the financial sponsorship we have been active in their internship program to give students on the job training. We were very fortunate to find Brent Estes as our first service trainee. Rather than just throwing him into a basic technician program we immersed him in the Blue Oval Service certified program that sets Ford of Ocala apart from both other brands as well as other Ford dealers. This meant greeting guests, shadowing Service Advisors and being a porter while studying Service Technician certification programs. To supplement his computer training he assisted in performing preventive scheduled maintenance on vehicles. He could have stopped there and be a lube tech or a technician at any other dealership service department but Brent is a shining example of what the MTI can produce with our help. Upon graduation from the program he was hired full time as an automotive technician making more money than his peers. He has obtained major certification in five areas of service expertise with no signs of slowing down. And the Ford of Ocala values that run deep through all our employees was instilled in Brent as well. He is a member of the MTI Advisory Board and shares his knowledge and experience with the students. Because of Brent Estes and others like him, the Marion Technical Institute enjoys local and national success. Ford of Ocala is extremely proud of Brent Estes and our role in helping the youth of Marion County.

Electric Ford Focus set to Premier on 'Leno'Although electric cars won't be hitting dealer lots any time soon, automakers are working hard to get customers accustomed to the idea of driving without gasoline engines. That's why on Sept. 18, you'll see Drew Barrymore race an all-electric Ford Focus as part of her visit with Jay Leno during the first week of his new prime-time show on NBC. For the rest of the year, celebrities will compete for the best lap times in the special Focus provided by Ford. The setup is similar to the popular celeb racing feature on the United Kingdom car show Top Gear. Ford won't have an electric Focus until 2011, but it hopes the Leno feature will show that electric cars can be fun mainstream vehicles. FORD TRUCKS AND TOBY KEITH TEAM UP TO BRING MORE MUSIC TO MORE PEOPLE
Mich., Aug. 26, 2009 – Ford Trucks and country singer Toby Keith are teaming up this fall to bring more music to more people.
Toby Keith will kick off the 82nd National FFA Convention on Oct. 21 in Indianapolis, playing to more than 55,000 young people from FFA chapters around the country. The concert is sponsored by Ford Trucks and represents 61 years of Ford Motor Company's sponsorship of the FFA.
Last year, Ford celebrated its 60th year of involvement with the FFA and awarded 460 Built Ford Tough scholarships. Each scholarship recipient received $1,000 to continue their agricultural education at an accredited college, university or vocational school.
In a separate joint activity between Toby Keith and Ford, music lovers are invited to enter America's Toughest Sweepstakes at www.americastoughesttour.com by March 31, 2010, to win a 2010 Ford F-150 and a private backyard concert for 100 people next summer.
