Ford Says June U.S. Auto Sales Slide Lowest Among Major Makers

Monday, June 29, 2009

By Keith Naughton
June 29 (Bloomberg) -- Ford Motor Co., the only major U.S. automaker that hasn’t filed for bankruptcy, said its June sales of cars and trucks will be the “lowest” decline of any major automaker.
“The worst is behind us,” said George Pipas, in a briefing at the company’s headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan. “We may see economic growth in the second half and a higher level of auto sales.”
Automakers for June may post an annual U.S. sales rate that exceeds 10 million vehicles for the first time this year, according to estimates by Edmunds.com, J.D. Power & Associates, CSM Worldwide and Deutsche Bank. U.S. sales of cars and light trucks fell to 13.2 million last year after averaging more than 16 million annually through this decade.
Ford is benefiting from being the only major U.S. automaker not going through a government-financed bankruptcy, said John Wolkonowicz, auto analyst for IHS Global Insight in Lexington, Massachusetts. The company is the second-largest U.S. automaker, behind General Motors Corp.
“Ford has a good product line, excellent quality and they don’t have the stigma of having taken government money,” Wolkonowicz said in an interview. “They’re like the little engine that could and the public likes that.”
Ford’s U.S. sales fell 24 percent in May while the industry total dropped 34 percent.

Ford of Ocala benefits from no Gov't Bailout!

Wednesday, June 24, 2009

Ford could be gaining ground with consumers who appreciate the fact that Ford has not resorted to a federal bailout to keep itself in business.
That’s good news for Ford, although I keep saying
Ford is wise not to crow too soon or too loud. Ford could some day find itself in the same boat as Chrysler and GM, unless sales improve.
In May, not a single brand in the U.S. market posted higher sales than the year-ago month, according to
AutoData sales figures. That’s the first time in recent memory I can remember that happening. In recent months, somebody somewhere has always managed an increase, even if it was a tiny brand with an increase of less than 1 percent.
CNW Marketing Research reported today the results of surveys starting in December 2008. The results showed an increase in the percentage of consumers who indicated they were more favorably inclined to consider buying a Ford, because Ford didn’t ask for or receive federal assistance.
In December, that group made up 19.6 percent of the respondents. In February it was 27 percent, and in May 38 percent, CNW said.
In the most recent survey, about 9 percent of respondents said that “not accepting bailout funds” was the single most important reason for considering a Ford, according to CNW.
“A ‘Buy American’ attitude has been growing, but the primary beneficiary is likely to be Ford which is not only a U.S. brand, but not owned by the federal government. Consumers in large part — better than 80 percent — believe the bailout funds were misspent and government ownership is anathema to how business should be done,”
CNW said, in its monthly Retail Automotive Summary.
“Time will likely heal these attitudes. When Chrysler was purchased by Daimler, a large portion of the WWII generation said they wouldn’t buy a car from a German company,” CNW said.

Quality is Job #1 at Ford of Ocala!

Monday, June 22, 2009

On Monday June 22, 2009, 1:01 pm EDT

  • Ford brand's quality continues to improve faster than the overall industry; Ford brand remains statistically tied with top Japanese automakers
  • Ford brand's initial quality improved for the eighth consecutive year
Ford F-150, Mustang, Edge and Mercury Sable were quality leaders in their respective vehicle segments
  • F-250/F-350 Super-Duty manufacturing plant, Kentucky Truck in Louisville, was awarded a Bronze Plant Quality Award

DEARBORN, Mich., June 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Ford Motor Company (NYSE:

F - News) recorded another strong improvement in J.D. Power and Associates' 2009 Initial Quality Study, putting the Ford and Mercury brands in a statistical tie with the top Japanese brands.
The Ford brand, which continues to outpace the overall industry's quality improvement, now has posted eight consecutive years of gains in the closely watched quality study based on consumer evaluations after the first three months of new-vehicle ownership. Overall, the Ford brand improved by 10 points over last year's study.
"It is gratifying to see our commitment to quality paying off," said Bennie Fowler, Ford group vice president, Global Quality. "Ford has demonstrated consistent and continuous quality improvement. We're now tied with the best of the Japanese automakers and we won't be satisfied until Ford is the industry's global quality leader."
Some of Ford's most popular nameplates received top honors for their respective segment, including Ford F-150, Mustang, Edge and Mercury Sable.
J.D. Power and Associates 2009 Initial Quality Study is based on responses from 80,930 new 2009 model-year vehicle owners after they have driven their new vehicles for three months. It measures problems per 100 vehicles and was based on November through February registrations.
In April, Bloomfield Hills, Mich.-based RDA Group's Global Quality Research System (GQRS) showed that Ford has surpassed Honda and is in a statistical tie with Toyota in initial quality. That report, an analysis of "things gone wrong" in new vehicles as measured by customers, is commissioned quarterly by Ford.
"The blue oval is becoming synonymous with high quality with customers," Fowler said. "We're not only dramatically reducing defects, we are delivering the long-term durability and the superior craftsmanship that today's customers demand."

Details on Cash for Clunkers @ Ford of Ocala!

I don't expect to have anything concrete for about a month but it seems like some details are emerging on various websites. Basically your old car/truck/van will be worth $3500 or $4500 in trade depending on which vehicle you plan to buy. If your new one gets 4 MPGs more than your old one you qualify for $3500. Improve your MPGs by 10 MPGs and you get $4500 for trade in. This is above and beyond any rebates we may be offering at the moment. The vehicle must be 1984 or newer, drivable and owned by you for a period of time. It will be recycled as scrap only. It must be applied to a new vehicle only. Program will probably run from Aug to Dec or less. You can find more on the web by searching 'Cash for Clunkers' or calling us @ 1.800.292.3338. A lot of this came from Edmunds.com. We have salespeople and sales support researching it further. We will post more as we get it.

"cash for clunkers" coming to Ford of Ocala!

Friday, June 19, 2009

The Congress has finally passed the 'Cash for Clunkers' bill. I reported on it early in March while it was still being hammered into shape, I believe. It sailed thru the House but was stalled in the Senate this week as they hashed out some of the details. I believe it had to do with the difference in MPG, gas mileage difference between your trade in and the vehicle you were buying.
Basically what it says is that if you trade in a car with limited MPG on a new, more fuel efficient ride the government will allow up to $4500 in trade. I'll see if I can locate a definitive article and post it here soon. In the meantime, come on in and speak to a sales associate or product specialist to see what is available. You'll be pleasantly surprised by how many of our vehicles provide better gas mileage without compromising power or comfort.
Call us @ 1.800.292.3338 or locally @ 352.732.4800 for more information. Or you can visit us 24/7 @ www.fordocala.net or www.fordofocala.com to browse our inventory, check the latest incentives and submit a credit application for pre-approval!
